"They have the manpower, the tools, the vans and the know-how to get the job done."  Lewis Cameron

Van Hire

Penelope is a high flying young business exec. She lives in a second floor flat in the West End. A highly independent woman, Penelope considers herself a 'Trendy West Endy'. Following the "termination" of Barnaby, her "partner" Penelope has decided to clear out all of the junk in her life.

Penelope hired a van to dispose of her junk. She had to take a taxi to the van hire centre which cost her £14.20. The journey took just over 35 minutes, where she waited another 35 minutes before driving away with a mid sized van costing £59 + VAT. Penelope drove the van back home, via the petrol station (another 40 minutes), excited by the prospect of starting afresh.

On arriving at home, Penelope parked in the closest available space, 50 metres from her main door entrance. By the third trip up the stairs Penelope was exhausted. The edible undies procured at a hen night proved the straw that broke the camels back, when loaded onto a box containing 4 years of study notes.

3 painful hours later Penelope had filled half the van with all of her junk. She now wished she'd gotten a smaller van for less cost, but could hardly breathe, had an aching back and she'd broken 2 nails. She also wished she'd taken out the insurance on offer at the hire centre, as she noticed a foot long scrape on the van door. She vaguely remembered the incident whilst loading a contraption which allegedly gave you 'abs or your money back!'.

When the pain subsided, Penelope drove to the local tip. She was stopped at the gate and told that as she hadn't booked her van in she couldn't dump her junk. Penelope was furious. "I pay my council tax" she said. "I don't care" he said. All that effort for nothing.

Penelope had to unload all her junk back into the street in the pouring rain, back up the stairs and back into her flat, where it festers to this day. She spent a total of £104.26 on van hire, diesel and taxis for nothing. She wasted her time, her money and her energy.

Penelope turned to drink, lost her job, had her flat repossessed, was wrongly accused of chicken theft, fled the country, and was last seen in Guatemala polishing a street vendors shoes.
